The Results |
Assuming a starting balance of $10,000, an investment in SPY - the popular ETF that mirrors the S&P 500 index - would have delivered a balance of $25,340 in the 10 years ending July 1, 2025. An investment in the Aggressive Portfolio would have delivered $212,120.
The numbers get eye-popping, fast. Have a little more to start with? A $50,000 portfolio in the beginning, had you simply bought and held SPY, would be worth $126,700 today. Not bad. But that same $50,000 put to work in the Aggressive Portfolio would be worth $1,060,600 today. Want this Portfolio? Jump to Portfolio Pricing and sign up. Or, keep reading... You don't make this kind of money risk free. In the stock market, investment risk can be thought of in terms of volatility and drawdowns. Volatility In simple terms, volatility refers to the rate at which the price of an asset or market fluctuates over a given period. Over the 10-year period referenced above, our Aggressive Portfolio had a volatility of 21.1%. That's slightly higher than the 18.3% for SPY (our market proxy). Maximum Drawdown A drawdown is the decline in an investment's value from its peak to its lowest point before it recovers to a new peak. For the 10-year period, our Aggressive Portfolio experienced a maximum drawdown of -29.4% in 2020, slightly less than the -33.7% that SPY suffered that same year. It's worth noting that the Aggressive Portfolio recovered quickly and went on the end the year up 40.2%, vastly outperforming the overall market.
The takeaway: The Aggressive Portfolio is volatile and will experience sizable drawdowns from time to time, commensurate with its high expected returns. For this reason, the portfolio is most suitable for investors with a high tolerance for risk - or investors who keep the total invested amount to a comfortable level. Three Caveats
Past performance is no guarantee. While the WealthDAC Portfolios have delivered strong past performances, according to the first rule of investing, past performance is no guarantee of future results.
May not be suitable for all investors. This page details the WealthDAC Aggressive Portfolio, a curated collection of 12 large-cap stocks. As noted in the name, this is a relatively aggressive portfolio best suited for investors with a high tolerance for risk - or investors who keep the total invested amount to a comfortable level.
Max Drawdowns are not safety nets. Max drawdowns are historical points of reference. They are the largest drawdowns the backtested examples have experienced over the time frames cited. They are not floors, they are not safety nets. Always assume the largest drawdown (for any stock, ETF, mutual fund, strategy or portfolio) is lurking out there in the future.
